Oppo is slow tonight, so let’s play a game.
Preface: I don’t know what it’s going to be, though i have an educated guess.
Last Friday I was involved in a very minor rear-ending. Car behind me saw the car in front of me complete a left turn and, instead of waiting for me to make my left, just decided to accelerate into me. Both of us are fine and i am un injured.
My vehicle: 2011 535xi, 127k miles
Damage: slightly dented bumper (see pic) plus headrest airbag went off and perhaps seatbelt tensioner pyro. It’s fine to drive, except that the headrest is way into my personal space and the dash has so many red lights cause SRS.
Estimate: I’m gonna leave that up to you. Plus the over/under on whether it’s gonna get totaled over this relatively minor issue.

I’m going with $5k and close to being a write off.

$10k. And I would not be driving it if there was anything going on with the seatbelt.

I have no idea, but that really doesn’t seem like it should have set off airbags. I mean, I’d rather pay to replace an airbag than have a serious injury, but my first thought was just a bumper cover replacement/paint would have been sufficient. Bring back 5mph bumpers!

You’re close to my thoughts, too

Airbag deployed + 127k miles -> totaled for most cars, no? I’d never heard of a headrest airbag, though. Or you mean a curtain airbag?
My guess is the rear is about $2, 000 plus another $ 2,000 for the airbag situation.

The frontal airbags are fine. The headrests have little charges in them that make them pop out during a collision. $350 each, thereabouts.

Nope, the headrests have little charges that make them pop out during a collision. About $350 to replace. I’m guessing the bumper will be about $2k assuming they’re can reuse the cover and sensors. Probably $3k in total, which is close to 45% of insurance value.

$5800.00

Seemingly minor damage in a modern car that's still perfectly driveable? $5,000, easy.

Did not realize that’s a thing Glad it won’t be totaled! Didn’t know you have a 5 series

Seatbelts can be surprisingly expensive sooo... $6,750 is my guess
